We grabbed Steve Arnold, CEO of e-days, for a few words on what makes e-days such a special company and his background before joining the company.
How long have you worked for e-days?
I’ve been working on e-days since June 2008. Initially e-days was just one of a number of different SaaS solutions that we developed for businesses. In traditional start-up fashion we built a small number of platforms and launched them quickly. We signed early adopter customers and collected feedback to constantly improve them. After 18 months we realised the e-days solution had great potential, so we focused it. Its been great fun seeing the solution mature to a market leading, global solution.
Tell us a bit about your background before e-days
I took a few gap years after A-levels before going to University. I spent time working in France and Spain, and then in London for Diageo. At Diageo I got involved with helping to solve legal disputes relating to marketing and advertising campaigns, and as a result, I developed a real interest in the legal side of business. So, I decided to go to Uni to study Business Law. During the law degree I completed a placement with a law firm. I enjoyed the placement, but seeing the internet really starting to take off and a change to the way business was being done – I decided at this point that I wanted to get involved with technology. My next role at Harvey Nash, – a London based global resourcing firm and IT outsourcing service provider - was a great move for me. I could see how successful this company was and the way it was using technology to grow the company rapidly. That job gave me a thirst for business and set me on my way to becoming an technology entrepreneur.
What do you love about working for e-days?
I love the belief that our entire team has in the e-days solution. And, I love the feedback we get from our customers – its great to know that e-days is such a popular solution delivering real ongoing value.
What do you look for in new people coming to work for e-days?
We like driven and determined people with a great work ethic and a strong sense of humility - my belief is that this combination of attributes helps us form brilliant teams.
Why do you think the e-days software is special?
Three things come to mind straight away.
- We’ve had a laser sharp focus on one very challenging area of HR technology and this focused approach has allowed us to develop a very rich solution.
- e-days delvers an excellent user experience across all employees, managers, HR and payroll/finance meaning everyone is covered.
- The way we’ve built e-days has allowed for massive flexibility - so it can also be configured precisely to match each customer’s specific requirements across all their locations and regions. This allows customers to get what they need to be compliant and to get great value.
